About Ching Yun

Historical Overview

Ching Yun University, previously Chien-Hsing Industrial College, was established in 1966. In 2003, the Ministry of Education approved the upgrade of this institution from college status to its current standing as a university. At present, this institution has twelve departments, including the departments of Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Finance Banking, International Business, Information Management, Finance and Banking, Marketing and Distribution, Applied Foreign Languages, and Information Engineering. In addition, it has four research centers: the Logistics Management Center, the Digital Earth and Disaster Reduction Research Center, the Green Energy Center, and the Euro-Asian Center.

CYU regards three areas -- automation, telecommunications, and internet technology-- as central to its long-term development. It anticipates becoming a leader of E-generation high technology as a result of the premium it currently places on knowledge management and intellectual economics. Furthermore, over the past three years CYU has spent two billion NT dollars ( $1 US=$31 NT ) to renovate its buildings and complete its campus. Concurrently, it is looking for a second campus so that the scale of the school can be enlarged. Dozens of assistant professors are currently being recruited to improve the quality of the school's teaching and research. Ching Yun University aims to become a first-rate university of technology.

Educational Goals

In accordance with the 2000 curriculum standards set by the Ministry of Education, CYU's curriculum design has become uniformly more flexible, thereby strengthening the institution's emphasis on academic and technological advancement. In addition to providing a solid foundation in basic theory, the institution's departments and divisions strive to combine experimental teaching and internship training with project-making and research integration. This allows student education to meet the changing demands of the industrial world. With strict planning and sound organization the educational policy fashioned by Ching Yun University becomes more efficient each year.

CYU's dedication to the goals of national growth and educational development was recognized in 1999 when it was upgraded from junior college to institute of technology status. At present, the institution is oriented towards combining theory and practice, as well as promoting long-term curriculum improvement. Accordingly, the inter-departmental Electromechanical Integration and Automation Center, the Logistics Management Center, the Green Energy Center, the Euro-Asian Research Center, and the Digital Earth and Disaster Reduction Research Center have been founded for the purpose of facilitating integral course design. This innovation allows the university to both enhance faculty research capability and expand student knowledge of applied science and technology.
